HFC M166
FPS: 280-300
Adjustable Hop up
Full Metal (ABS Frame, metal slide, barrel and internals)
Price: $115
Basic Overview:
To start, this gun is modeled after H&K's USP (P8) and comes in two variants. There's a standard, which is what I'll be reviewing, and a compact version. Both have ABS frames, and come with either a dark gray slide, or a silvery-toned slide. The gun has a good weight to it, and is rather comfortable to shoot. The selector switch clicks from safety to semi, to full auto very nicely (Yes, this gun shoots full auto ;D) and the slide locks back nicely when the magazine has been emptied. The hop up unit is easy to adjust, all you do is take down the gun like normal (in terms of sliding the slide off) and turn the dial for the hop unit. The magazines hold 18 rounds. Also, with other GBB pistols, the slide tends to rub paint off the top, in this gun, theres a small raise in the outer barrel that keeps the paint from rubbing off at the top.
Performance:
Basic:
This gun's basic performance is pretty good. I usually got around 2-3 uses out of the magazine before needing to re-fill the gas (used propane.) The hop-up gave it nice range for a pistol, I could usually hit targets from around 100ft away. It has a nice kick to it because of the weight of the slide, which gave it a nice realistic feel.
Semi:
Decently accurate and good range. Kept the gun on semi most of the time unless I needed a quick burst to get away.
Full auto:
This is where you loose accuracy. If you practice with it enough, you'll learn to control the recoil. Again, it has a heavy slide, so when that thing kicks back constantly it gives it a good recoil and is hard to control if your not used to it. Also in this mode, the hop up had a habit of adjusting back down.
Pros:
Full metal aside from ABS frame
Easy to adjust hop unit
pretty accurate when the hop unit is adjusted
Durable
Cons:
Hop unit tends to re-adjust in full auto
magazine lips are plastic (hasn't been a problem for this gun yet, however I've seen this be the first to break in other HFC pistols)
Lack of upgradable parts (precision barrel, gas valves)
Total Score: 7/10
